Thought Process is a year-long, monthly meeting of local writers that provides a safe, low-stakes space for playwrights to interact with their peers, share pages from old, new or commissioned work, and most importantly: write!

This cohort seeks to give each playwright the experience they want for their work in order to serve their play, without the pressures of an institution making the work “producible”.

Meetings will take place on (usually) the second Sunday of every month from 6PM to 10PM, and will be structured thus:

  • Each meeting will have 45-60 minutes set aside at the top of the evening for playwrights to simply write. Prompts will be provided if you do not have something specific you want to work on or you are looking for guided motivation.

  • The remainder of the meeting will be spent sharing work with your peers and having your work read out loud.

  • After pieces are read, there will be a feedback session with the group and guided STT’s staff. This guided feedback session will always be a safe and communal time for the playwright to hear encouraging and intentional feedback.

  • Each playwright will be guaranteed the opportunity to share their work at least twice throughout the year.

Halfway through the year, there will be a group discussion about what each of the chosen playwrights would like to do with the work they have been working on in meetings.

Potential culminating projects could be:

  • Creating a package to start shopping this work to other theaters.

  • Hosting a private or invited reading with local actors in order for the playwright to hear their work out loud and receive feedback from designated members of the community.

  • Hosting a public or invited reading where local collegiate actors will read the playwrights work to an audience.

  • Meeting with a dramaturg to receive targeted one-on-one feedback.

  • Or anything in-between!

Then, based on each playwright's individual goals, their final presentation or project will be completed by the end of the Process, December 2026.

Outside of class - playwrights will also have scheduled opportunities to hang with their fellow playwrights to get to know them better and create a real sense of community and security. This will be determined by the group once met.

Playwrights will also be given two comps to each show in our 2026 Season!

“Thought Process has been invaluable to me. This year has been wild professionally and personally, but Thought Process gave me dedicated time every month to focus on my craft and a physical space to write, away from all the noise and distractions. Even more important than time and space, it gave me a team. It brought me out of isolation and gave me a room full of people rooting for my script and supporting me as a writer.”
